INTRODUCTION

Nan Knits is a contemporary knitwear brand, founded in 2021 by designer Nan Hu. Nan’s futuristic and surrealist designs are inspired by numerous pop culture depictions of people from across time and space. Such influences include French posters from the 1970s, advertising cross-galaxy vacations; Japanese girls’ comics from the 1980s; and the streets of Hong Kong in the 2020 video game Cyberpunk 2077. In addition, the company’s designs incorporate elements from Nan’s own memories of the trends popular among various Asian subcultures during his youth.
